On 1st May 2025, Rubamin Pvt. Limited reached an exciting new milestone in its commitment to advancing India's sustainable future. In a grand ceremony held on the occasion of Gujarat Foundation Day, the company proudly unveiled its state-of-the-art Lithium-ion Battery Recycling Facility, a critical initiative aimed at ensuring a cleaner, greener future through the extraction and recycling of vital critical metals.

This profound statement, often attributed to military strategists, underscores the importance of preparation in times of peace to mitigate risks during crises. While originally meant for battlefields, its relevance extends far beyond – into industries where safety is paramount.

When I unveiled Rubamin Pvt. Limited‘s Industry 4.0-powered zero-waste lithium-ion battery recycling facility for critical metals at REIAI Association’s conclave on sustainable waste management and FICCI’s summit on tech in recycling, many in the audience were skeptical. Could an Indian recycler truly be at the cutting edge of tech?

At first glance, the world of lithium-ion battery recycling might seem like a relentless beast—massive industrial machines, complex chemical processes, and hazardous black mass waste demanding precision and power. But at Rubamin , we’ve mastered the art of taming this beast with elegance, efficiency, and innovation.

Aniket Bhagwat, our “master planner”, came up with the idea of moving towards zero river water for industrial use. He almost insisted that we build a waterconservation system in the factory. It seemed logical but the project did not have any financial justification.

The 5m-deep lake inside Rubamin’s recycling complex looks like it was always meant to be here—naturally fed by a web of green swales that guide rainwater using the land’s own gradient.

Arpita Purohit talks about ESG reporting and decision making process in Rubamin. Arpita is a chemical engineer and has experience in managing shopfloor for large industries. She not only handles sustainability reporting, but also incharge of Procurement for our Zinc, SBU.
